4. 重擊 Thump

12小時的冷水澡後, 樹幹已就緒, 可以進行重擊了.
係滴~ 你沒聽錯. 重擊樹幹兩端可以刺激它長出香菇-->說明書上是這麼寫的.
我把遭重擊的樹幹立在盤子中, 也為它買了一個新器具: 手動灑水系統. 就這樣了, 接下來就是等待.

After 12-hour cold bath, the log is ready for the thumps.
Yeah you heard it right. Thumping both ends of the log on the floor can shock it into producing mushrooms -->that's what it says on the manual.
After the thumps, I put the log upright in the saucer and bought a new tool to take care of it: a manually activated water spray system. Voila, now we have to wait.

3. 我不想把朽木放在大鍋裡 I Don't Want To Put The Rotten Log in The Caldron

我得找個大鍋子把樹幹浸在冷水裡.
室友一號:我覺的不太好吧...(邊看著大鍋跟她前幾天煮的雞湯). 門旁邊有些桶子妳可以用.
我:那些桶子是拿來洗浴室的. 妳真的想要香菇長在充滿清潔劑的木頭上嗎?
室友二號:我覺得大鍋子可以啊, 那個是可以吃的.
室友一號:我不想把朽木放在大鍋裡.
我:好吧.

我把樹幹浸在一個裝保鮮盒的舊垃圾筒裡. 還說衛生儲藏呢...

I have to find a caldron to submerge the log completely in cold water.
rommie1:I don't think that's a good idea...(she is looking at the caldron and the chicken soup she made days ago). There are some bucket pails near the door, you can use them.
me:We use those pails to clean the bathroom. Seriously you want the mushrooms grow from a log full of sterilant?
rommie2: I think that caldron is ok. The log is edible.
rommie:I don't want to put the rotten log in the caldron.
me:All right.

So I put the log in a old trash can where we store all the containers. Talking about hygienic storage....

2. 室內還是室外? Indoors or Outdoors?

箱子裡有一個小樹幹和一個盤子. 我得把樹幹浸在冷水裡面至少十二小時. 十二小時之後我有兩個選擇.
種在室內:
把樹幹立在盤子上. 盤子裡面要一直有水, 而且遠離直晒光源和暖氣口. 定期澆水.
種在室外:
把樹幹立在陰暗處, 樹幹一端要直接接處到草地或土地.

剛開始我是想要種在室外, 畢竟香菇應該長在室外才對. 但是我家後院的小森林有點太熱鬧了: 有很多動物在那而且有時後晚上會打架. 打架是還好啦, 只是晚上打完架隔天會在草地上看到一些排泄物. 老實說我已經在懷疑他們打架的時後是不是在互丟大便 =.= a
先種室內吧, 看情形再說.

There are a mushroom log and a saucer in the box. I have to submerge the log completely in cold water for at least 12 hours. After 12 hours I have two choices.
growing indoors:
Stand log upright in the saucer. The suacer should cintinually be filled with water. I need to keep it away from direct light and heating vents and replenish water regularly.
growin outdoors:
Stand log in a shaded area and the bottom should be in contact with grass or soil.

My first thought would be growing outdoors, after all it's where the mushrooms are supposed to be. However the forest close to my backyard is kinda crowded: there are so many aniamals living there, and sometimes they have fights at night. I am ok with the fights, only that whenever there's a fight at night the next morning you see some poo-poo on the grass. Frankly I start to wonder if they are fighting by throwing body waste at each other =.= a
I guess I will try growing indoors first, and see how it goes.

1. 香菇? Mushrooms?

某位深俱幽默感人士送我一盒種香菇工具組當成我的生日禮物. 所以實際上他是送我香菇當生日禮物. 好樣的!

禮物是從克里夫蘭送來的. 我打開禮物的時後室友在旁邊:
室友一號:(看著說明書, 上面有一張香菇圖片)可以吃嗎?
我:大概吧.
室友二號:從哪送來的?
鄰居一號:克里夫蘭.
室友二號:妳在克里夫蘭有仰慕者?
我:是是是.... (仰慕者會送紅玫瑰, 不會送"香菇"好嗎?)
鄰居一號:你知道嗎, 前幾天我家浴缸長香菇.
室友一號, 室友二號及我:啊???
鄰居一號:真的啦. 但是沒有很久, 隔天就縮水扁掉了.

附記: 上周我們這裡連下十一天雨, 地下室變水坑, 隔壁家的地下室還可以看到紙箱漂浮. 本來這裡天氣是很乾的, 不太可能在浴缸看到香菇, 一定是下雨的關係.

Someone with great sense of humor sent me a mushroom growing kit as my birthday gift. So technically he sent me mushrooms for my birthday. Way to go Mr. Sense of Humor!

The gift was delivered to my house from Cleverland. When I opened it, my roommies were around:
rommie1:(looking at the manual, there's a pic of the mushrooms) edible?
me:I guess.
rommie2:delivered from where?
neighbor1:Cleverland.
roommie2:oh you have a secret admirer living in Cleverland?
me: yeah right..... (com'on, secret admirer will send me red roses, not MUSHROOMS)
neighbor1:You know few days ago there are mushrooms near my bathtub.
rommie1, rommie2 & me:What??
neighbor1:It's true. But they didn't stay long. The next day they shrank and became flat.

note: Last week it rains 11 days. My basement looks like a sump. There are boxes drifting around in my neighbor's basement. The climate here is supposed to be dry and it's not possible to see mushrooms in the bathtub. It must be the rain.
